As Matt Zoller Seitz’s blog says, ” The video essay is often described as a form of new media, but the basic principles are as old as rhetoric.”
In today’s times, we perceive the video essay as something that we would commonly see on a YouTube video or a teacher’s education video. This entry is not about what a video essay is like in my last post. I consider this to be more about what it is by its roots.
If one could trace back the roots of a video essay, then people would find that the word ‘essay’ is the true origin of it. Although the written essay is the root, the fact that the word ‘video’ is still part of the term. This is more like an adaptation of the changing times surrounding media in this case. As time went on, the forms of presentation changed which resulted in the existence of an essay in video form or a ‘video essay’.

It’s interesting that a video essay is treated as a separate source of information and media platform in comparison to other forms of media. It is true that video essay’s are considered an adaptation representing the changing time, and by the roots is far more interesting in today’s society

The video essay is very much just a spoken essay with visual evidence. Very much like what Professor Beossen was saying last class session, it would be much harder to describe the images seen in the video essay in a traditional written format. The video essay is unique in its ability to streamline the process of making the argument and maximize the effectiveness of the evidence.
