“Making the first post”. What can I say about it? Just that from me. Although I say something like that, this is hopefully not just some random rambling.
Social Media or the concept of Media itself is something pretty common that interacts with us in our everyday lives. Be it an Instagram post, the latest Marvel movie, a YouTube video, this blog, a newspaper lying on a street puddle, or even a cave drawing from whatever age the cavemen originated from, all can be considered to be a form of media itself. I could go on and on about the definition of media but this is not about that. I am going to discuss about making the first post.
Why do people make posts for media? I wouldn’t know. If I had to guess though, it would be to express an idea of their’s. In my case, I would be doing this for a class assignment. Specifically, it is Boessen’s ‘Elements of Media Making’ course. Although its an assignment, I have no idea what to write for a blog.
I have fellow classmates who have already submitted their entries long before me. They are Carl and Courtney. Courtney’s first blog is a long story about her dog; it is similar to a journal entry. Carl’s is a short analysis of photography; it is similar to a newspaper. Naturally a newspaper and a journal entry differ to great degrees. That is why that even though I have their blogs for reference, the stark contrast of the two examples don’t help me progress in any direction other than the opportunity to drone on an on for content on what to write.
In the past, I worked for my high school’s newspaper and yearbook. After learning about the basics of media in college, my judgement of how to differentiate some online blog to a newspaper is somewhat askew. The only obvious difference is that one is digital data while the other is a written document. But they both discuss and inform about a certain topic in the end. Do I write as I would for my school newspaper or should I write similar to a journal entry. It is that sort of weird to be or not to be question.
At any rate, like all the mysteries in life, it will somehow be solved in the future.
